Voluntary IDT (Points Only)

Use Points Only for IDT performed voluntarily — no compensation, just retirement point credit. Documented with N-series codes. Maximum two points per calendar day. Signed by your O/WO.

When to use

  • You've maxed paid IDT and want additional points
  • Voluntary training you performed outside paid orders
  • Self-development or career-broadening work, unpaid
  • Unit-supporting effort beyond authorized paid periods

When NOT to use

  • Any paid drill or duty use RST, RMA, MDR, or EBDL
  • If you're under a paid order for the same day §2-4c
  • More than 2 periods (8 hours) on the same calendar day
  • Same day as Annual Training §2-4c

Rules at a glance

  • Maximum 2 periods (points) per calendar day
  • Coded N-1 (1 period, 4 hr) or N-2 (2 periods, 8 hr) — non-paid
  • Cannot overlap a paid IDT day §2-4c
  • Cannot overlap Annual Training §2-4c
  • Block 11 signed by your O/WO
